CAROL HAMMOND attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Drama in 1971. She was the first undergraduate to design a main stage show there. She started her career here in Atlanta in 1971 managing the costume shop at the original Atlanta Children's Theatre - now part of the Alliance Theatre. She then went on to be the resident costume designer at Flat Rock Playhouse, the state theatre of North Carolina, for 9 seasons. In 1981 she joined the Alliance Theatre and has worked as the Costume Shop Manager for 30 seasons. She has costumed over 300 productions including, pre Broadway shows (Last Night of Ballyhoo, Aida, The Color Purple, Sister Act), national tours (Noise/Funk, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) world premieres, large-scale musicals, period and contemporary shows, comedies, dramas, and children's shows. Her proudest professional moment came when the Alliance was awarded the 2007 Regional Theatre Tony Award. Her thanks goes out to all designers who have worked at the Alliance and the costume shop personnel for making her career a long and successful one.
