JOHN MALKOVICH won an Obie for Steppenwolf's True West in 1983. The following year, he appeared with Dustin Hoffman in the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman, which earned him an Emmy when it was made into a television film in 1985. He received Academy Award nominations for Places in the Heart (1984) and the Clint Eastwood thriller In the Line of Fire (1993) and burlesqued his own public persona in the films Adaptation and Being John Malkovich. his best-known movies include Empire of the Sun (1987, with young Christian Bale), Con Air (1997, with Nicolas Cage), and the 1998 version of Alexandre Dumas's The Man in the Iron Mask.
