Kate Nelligan
KATE NELLIGAN perfectly captures both the cynical, bigoted politician and tender, tormented mother she must bring to the screen in Human Cargo. For her performances in Blessed Stranger: After Swiss Flight 111 (2001) and Million Dollar Babies (1996) she received a Gemini nomination for Best Performance for an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-series. She was honoured by a Genie for her work in Margaret's Museum (1996). The actress was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Prince of Tides, directed by Barbra Streisand and starring Streisand and Nick Nolte. For her work in Gary Marshall's film Frankie and Johnny, she won the D.W. Griffith and the BAFTA Award. With The Road to Avonlea, the actress received both an Emmy Award and a Gemini Award (1993). The Diamond Fleece, directed by Al Waxman brought her the Gemini for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Dramatic Role (1993). Her work in Patricia Rozema's White Room also garnered a Genie nomination (1991). Among her other memorable screen credits are: Up Close and Personal with Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer; How to Make an American Quilt with Winona Ryder, Maya Angelou and Anne Bancroft; Shadow and Fog, directed by Woody Allen; Fatal Instinct directed by Carl Reiner and The Cider House Rules directed by Lasse Hallstrom. Trained in London and a member of both the National Theatre of Great Britain and the Royal Shakespeare Company, her North American stage credits are impressive. Kate Nelligan has received four Tony Nomination: Spoils of War (Music Box Theatre/Mirvish Productions); Serious Money (Royal Theatre/Joseph Papp); Moon for the Misbegotten (Court Theatre/Shubert Organization) and Plenty (Plymouth Theatre/Joseph Papp; David Hare director).
